Drama Workshop
Jungle Adventure
Age Group: 3–8 years
Duration: 30–40 minutes
Theme: Exploring the jungle through movement, sound, and role-play
Focus: Imaginative play, characterisation, sensory awareness, storytelling
Warm-Up Game – Jungle Statues
Instructions:
Begin by inviting the children to move freely around the space. Tell them they are explorers in a jungle, moving carefully and quietly so as not to wake the animals. Use movement cues such as tiptoeing over muddy puddles, crawling under hanging vines, stretching tall to see over bushes, or hopping over river stones.
Call out jungle animals periodically. Children freeze in a statue showing that animal.
Examples:
– Crocodile – flat body, hands snapping like jaws
– Monkey – crouched knees, arms scratching
– Parrot – arms as wings, standing on one foot
– Tiger – low crouch, claws out, growling
– Elephant – one arm as a trunk, stomping feet
Main Focus – Jungle Animal Parade
Instructions:
Ask each child to choose a jungle animal to become. Let them practise its movement and sound. Then, one by one, children enter the ‘jungle clearing’ (centre of the circle) to perform as their animal while others watch.
Encourage expressive movement:
– How does your animal walk or crawl?
– What sound does it make?
– What is it looking for?
Extension:
Form pairs or small groups (e.g., monkey family, snake slithering past frog) and perform together.
Group Storytelling – Lost in the Jungle
Instructions:
Sit in a circle and go on a guided jungle adventure together. You narrate the journey while children act, add sound effects, or speak in character.
Example prompts:
– ‘We packed our bags… What did you bring?’ (binoculars, rope, bananas)
– ‘We heard rustling… What was it?’ (snake, tiger, explorer)
– ‘We came to a river… How do we cross?’ (stones, raft, bridge.)
Cool Down – Jungle Rainstorm
Instructions:
Use body percussion to create a rainstorm:
1. Rub hands together – wind
2. Snap fingers – raindrops
3. Pat thighs – heavy rain
4. Stamp feet – thunder
Reverse it to quiet the storm.
Then, children lie on the floor and imagine resting in a treehouse.
– What sounds do you hear?
– What do you see in the jungle below?
– How do you feel now?
Reflection/Plenary
Finish by asking:
– What was your favourite animal today?
– What sound or movement did you enjoy?
– Can anyone remember something we did on our adventure?
